Artwork showing the chaos of the Dade battlefield on December 28th 1835 during the height of the Indian attack on Dade's command. Work shows Captain George W. Gardiner (With raised sword and white shirt) trying to rally the troops after their ambush by the Seminole Indians. Major Frances Dade and half of his 110 men were killed in the first volley by the Seminoles. Only three of Dade's men lived after the attack which started the second Seminole Indian War of Florida.
